This is silly.
The server's like only accessible when Bam/Fru/MysteriousThirdPartyServer[Wo?]Man is online. Isn't a proper server supposed to be more or less 24/7 or at least have designated hours? I dunno if it's run from someone's PC or what, but this is a sorry state for a server to be in. We can't rightly open it to the public when it's never up, right?
Re: This is silly.
I'm sure there is some technical jib jab for why the server isn't up the majority of the time. However, I think we can all agree with Sugoi that this is not a proper state for a server to be in while open to the public. Planned or infrequent downtime is understandable, but this is a bit much.

Re: This is silly.
The issue springs from a server tick loop that quickly consumes all memory on the server (about 10G), triggered by a player logging out. When a player attempts to log in, the server tries to allocate memory it doesn't have, and causes a fatal error.
At least, that's what the logs report. I'm currently working on a fix. Unfortunately, there's no other report of this error online, so it's something specific to us. However, we can mitigate the effects of this crash issue by using a script to save and reboot the server every hour.
Every hour might seem a little excessive, but it'll restart the server if it crashes and no one is around to tend to it when it happens. This'll lead to better playability while I try to pinpoint the issue.

Re: This is silly.
Any inkling of an ETA on the script or even the complete fix? That'd be nice, because the only solution I can think of would be for The Admin to keep their computer up, running the console at all times which I'm pretty sure isn't a realistic option.
Re: This is silly.
I'm going to delve into writing the script tomorrow. It shouldn't be all that difficult. Hopefully.
As far as a total fix, I have no idea. I'm not even totally sure what's causing the problem yet. Going around hunting for it would require me disassembling quite a lot of stuff. That wouldn't be fun for anyone!

Re: This is silly.
Update on stability. I think I've figured out a way to greatly reduce the crashes. I'm going to play with it tonight. Explanation forthcoming.
